Global Connect Coffee Chats
Connection is an important part of wellbeing, especially in a large and busy workplace like ours. In February 2026, Global Connect launched Coffee Chats, an initiative focused on creating space for connection and community among international employees at Queen’s. Registered members will be matched in small groups group to meet either in person or online — coffee is on us!
This is a simple opportunity to connect with colleagues, share experiences, and build relationships across roles and units, whether you’re new to Queen’s or have been here for a while. Gift cards for coffee will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
Gateway English Conversation Buddy Program
The Gateway English Conversation Buddy Program, co-created by staff from the Office of the VP (Finance and Administration) and the Human Rights and Equity Office, kicked off in June 2024 under the auspices of Queen's Global Connect.
Nine buddy pairs were matched and met regularly as part of this initiative.
This short-term program presents an opportunity for Gateway graduates to continue English conversations and for assigned GC buddies to offer assistance and local knowledge, ensuring their Gateway counterparts feel welcomed and included as they navigate Queen’s and Kingston community as newcomers.
I want to say a big thank you for the Buddy Program. This program is very important to me, and I’m really grateful to the organizers and facilitators. A special thanks to Yvette Baninla, my buddy, who has been an amazing mentor. Her support and kindness have helped me a lot in my learning journey.
Through this program, I have learned so much and improved my English. It has truly changed my life, and I’m so happy to be part of it. I also want to thank Global Connect ERG for doing a great job organizing this initiative. This program helped me make great connections and grow personally and professionally. I am very thankful to be part of it. Thank you so much! This means a lot to me.
