Meet your host: Dr. Patrick Deane
Patrick Deane became the 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University on July 1, 2019.
Dr. Deane is the former President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University, a position he held for nine years. Prior to that, he served as Vice-Principal (Academic) at Queen’s and also held a number of academic administrative appointments at Western University and the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Deane is a Professor of English Literature, with his principal research focus being the relationship between cultural production and British politics in the first half of the 20th Century.
He read English and Law at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, before undertaking graduate studies and receiving both an MA and a PhD in English Literature from Western University. Dr. Deane was the first recipient of the John Charles Polanyi Prize for Literature in 1988 and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
He is President of the Governing Council of the Magna Charta Observatory, a member of the Board of Directors of Providence Care and a member of the Campaign Cabinet for the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington

Dr. Barbara Crow
Dr. Barbara Crow leads one of the largest Faculties in the country, as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, Queen’s University. Appointed in 2017 after leaving her position as Dean Graduate Studies, Associate Vice-President Graduate at York University, Dean Crow implemented the Faculty's first strategic plan in its 130 year history and she has guided significant Faculty initiatives in support of the priority pillars and guiding principles of the plan. Dr. Crow has led the hiring of over 170 new faculty members with 70 per cent in equity deserving groups, the restructuring of student services, the reimagining of infrastructure to better serve the academic vision through SEEES, the Strategy for Excellence, Equity and Enrichment in Service Excellence, and the introduction of a seamless mobile interface to the student academic experience. Dr. Crow has also initiated a first for the Faculty with a multi-year course featuring the Dean’s Changemaker Challenge. She has chaired the Ontario Dean's Council and the Ontario Graduate Dean's Council and is a past-president of the Women's and Gender Studies et Recherche Feministes and board member of Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada. Currently, she is a co-PI on multi-million SSHRC international grant on "Ageing and Data" building on the research team's Ageing + Communication + Technologies (ACT): Experiencing a Digital World in Later Life. Dr. Crow was reappointed in 2022 as Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University and her academic and administrative experience also includes Professor Emerita and Senior Scholar, York University and Professor, Faculty of arts and Science Sociology, Queens University.
Omar Baboolal, Com'23 and ArtSci'23
Omar Baboolal is a dual degree student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Philosophy in his final year at Queen’s University. In the past, Omar has completed an internship as a Business Analyst at Connexall and in the subsequent summer, was a recipient of the USSRF research grant. Throughout his time at Queen’s, Omar has been very involved with advocacy groups on campus and was elected as the President of the Smith Commerce Society for the 2021-2022 school year.

Originally from the Chicagoland area, Elisabeth moved to Canada to attend Queen’s with the hopes of working on the business side of the Canadian healthcare system. Upon graduation from the Health Studies program in 2015 she started her career as a Business Analyst for RLDatix, a patient safety software company in Toronto. Elisabeth currently works for Doctors of BC in physician advocacy, economics, and negotiations. There, she helps assist physicians through disciplinary matters and contractual disputes. Elisabeth began volunteering with the Queen's Alumni Vancouver Branch in 2019, helping organize a range of alumni events, including outdoor activities, career events, and networking opportunities. Elisabeth currently serves as the President of the Vancouver Branch.

Jay Goddard, Artsci'20
Jay Goddard is a singer, guitarist, and producer who started playing guitar at about 11 years old. While at Queen’s University, Jay performed at local bars and charity concerts while writing and producing his own music.
Jay’s unique sound is a fusion of R'n'B, blues, and classic rock. His guitar playing is inspired by John Mayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jimi Hendrix. In his own music, he draws inspiration from artists such as Leon Bridges, Tom Misch, as well as producer Kenny Beats, amongst others.
