President's Message

Dear QWA Members,

I hope you are well and happy and looking forward to the holidays.  It is about time that you receive some news about QWA and the new QWA venue.  I have been waiting for some issues to be resolved but some things just take a long time.  The Executive approved an extension of your membership to September 1st 2021.  Let us hope we will be vaccinated by then.  All of us are looking forward to QWA life being back to normal.

The executive was hoping to conduct a tour of the house; however, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we could not make it happen.  We then thought we could produce a video that we could email to everyone but that did not pan out either.  Currently, we are attempting to determine if a visual arts student may be interested in producing one.  If all else fails, we will photograph each room and send them on to you.  It really is a lovely venue.

The deck has been upgraded and I am told that a review of the bids to repair and re-shingle the roof is underway.  Repairs to the interior are complete;  we need only acquire a few more items and the interior décor will be complete also.  Many members assisted the Relocation Committee in the huge effort to transform the house into a home for QWA members to enjoy. We are so grateful to them.  A gardening sub-committee (within House Management) has been formed.  Queen’s will do a Spring and Fall cleanup of the grounds; t he summer upkeep is for us to do.  The sub-committee does not have a budget; it will rely on members’ donations of gardening tools, plants, and participation.  More information will be available in the Spring.

Many, if not most of the interest groups have reconvened at members’ homes, by email, and zoom.  Should you wish to participate, give the coordinator of the interest group a call.

QWA has signed off on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).  This document outlines the relationship between the Office of the Principal and the Queen’s Women’s Association.  There will also be a Tenancy Agreement between Queen’s, RAQ and QWA.

Happy Holidays everyone and best wishes for 2021.  Here’s to receiving the COVID vaccine - and sooner rather than later!

Valerie Klassen  President, Queen’s Women’s Association
