Description:

A Mindfulness Workshop Series (Introduction to Mindfulness: How to Work with the Brain, Manage Stress, and Increase Focus & Joy) offered across four Tuesday evenings (7:00-8:00pm) beginning in March (March 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th). 

Each of the four week Mindfulness Workshop Series sessions will include:

- 10-20 minute talk

- 15-20 meditation practice/mindful movement

- 10-15 min question and answer period 

Weekly topics:

1. What is mindfulness (introduction, common misconceptions about meditation, benefits; breath, sounds, emotions, thoughts)

2. Working with our emotions (awareness of emotions, self-compassion)

3. Working with our heart (joy, equanimity)

4. Applying mindfulness on a daily basis (breath, heart, body, sounds, emotions, thoughts)

Note: Individuals can attend each of the four sessions as they choose and are not required to attend all four.

Queen’s International Affairs Association and the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations are pleased to be welcoming the Honourable Micheal Chong, Member of Parliament for Wellington-Halton Hills and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs to campus on Thursday, February 29th. MP Chong was the target of a political campaign by the People’s Republic of China after condemning China’s treatment of Muslim Uyghurs, speaking out against China's detention of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, and criticizing Huawei’s involvement in Canada’s 5G Network. MP Chong will discuss his experience as a target of Chinese foreign interference and how Canada should move forward in combating foreign threats to our democracy. All undergraduate, graduate students and faculty members are invited to attend and ask questions. The discussion will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Ellis Hall Auditorium and food will be provided for all attendees.

Please join Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) on March 5 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm EST for a virtual roundtable on integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion in cancer clinical trials. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Doreen Ezeife, Dr. Carmen Guerra, and Dr. Tina Hsu to lead us in this conversation which will be moderated by CCTG Senior Investigator Dr. Wendy Parulekar. We hope this discussion will encourage participants to consider ways to advance accessibility for populations that remain underrepresented in clinical trials. Participants will have an opportunity to ask our panelists questions following the discussion.

Featuring: Dorsa Ghahramani and Soheila Nadalian

Dorsa is a data analyst at HSPRI focusing on OHDP-Q projects. She holds master’s degrees in Healthcare Systems Engineering and Systems Science. Her expertise in data analytics, machine learning, data science, and developing healthcare data-driven tools, combined with an understanding of healthcare systems, enables her to skillfully analyze and interpret complex datasets.

Soheila is a data analyst at HSPRI, working on OHDP-Q projects. With a Master's in AI and System Design, she excels in data analytics, machine learning, and natural language processing. Her work focuses on extracting insights from complex datasets to drive impactful solutions.

This session is open to all and will be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel

This year, our annual conference theme "Sustainability is not a Sacrifice", aims to inspire and educate our community on how sustainable practices can be integrated into various aspects of our lives, without compromising on quality or comfort. Various speakers will delve into the problems we currently face as a globalized society, and offer solutions that focus on the benefits of following a sustainable economic model that holds the community at its centre.

 

Join us on March 2nd from 9am-4:30pm in Mitchell Hall in the LinQLab to explore the opportunities of sustainability in the Kingston region.

Light breakfast and lunch is included.

 

Key focus areas of the conference involve: 

  1. Addressing challenges and exploring sustainable solutions to ensure global food security and

As a team consisting of two Black and one South Asian educator, we will unpack our experiences of working with difficult knowledges in higher education spaces. In this conversation, we will focus predominantly on our experiences of teaching pre-service teachers in the Faculty of Education through anti-racist, anti-colonial and other critical pedagogies. We will explore the divergent responses to such pedagogies, including the resistance to redefining which and whose knowledges matter and understanding epistemological positionings as they relate with dominant knowledges (Liou & Cutler, 2021).
