Flags on campus are lowered in memory of Hans Metz, a retired employee who served at Queen’s for 50 years. He died suddenly on Dec. 31, 2015.

Mr. Metz arrived at Queen’s in 1965 to handle the technical activities and physical resources in the then Department of Biochemistry. He retired in May 2015 as the Technical Services Manager in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences.

At the Celebration of Service dinner held in May 2015, Mr. Metz received his 50-year ring. (Read more about his accomplishments in this Gazette profile).

A service of celebration and remembrance will be held at a time still to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Kidney Foundation (100 Stuart St., Kingston, Ont., K7L 2V6) or a charity of your choice.
