The Centre for International and Defence Policy (CIDP) at Queen’s University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship. Preference will be given to candidates with a background and research agenda in political science, but consideration will be given to applicants from other disciplines. The central requirement is a research agenda that gives serious attention to security and defence issues. Candidates with a focus on gender and/or the Women Peace and Security Agenda will be favoured. The postdoctoral fellow will be based jointly in the Department of Political Studies and the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s. This is a full-time position located in Kingston, Ontario.

This fellowship provides an opportunity to spend time in an intellectually stimulating environment conducting research and writing, as well as duties associated with the CIDP (research coordination, event planning, communications, outreach, etc.). While in residence at the Centre, the postdoctoral fellow is expected to participate in CIDP’s activities throughout the academic year in addition to pursuing their own research.

There might also be teaching opportunities in the candidate’s discipline, should the successful candidate be interested, which would be compensated separately.

Eligibility: preference will be given to citizens and permanent residents. Candidates must have been awarded a doctorate from a recognized university or expect to have completed all degree requirements by 1 July 2023.

The University invites applications from all qualified individuals, and is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace and welcomes applications from women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity.

Postdoctoral fellows at Queen's University are governed by a collective agreement: the Postdoctoral Fellow Collective Agreement, which governs the overall terms of the appointment.

Please direct inquiries to CIDP Unit Manager Maureen Bartram at cidp@queensu.ca. Applications must include:

  • A cover letter, which outlines the applicant’s program of post-doctoral research
  • A current c.v.
  • The name of two referees, who will only be contacted if the applicant is shortlisted (one of the confidential letter writers must be the candidate's PhD supervisor).

Applications will be reviewed as soon as they are received
