Dr. Marc Epprecht, Professor in Global Development Studies at Queen's, recently published a new book focused on queer Mozambique.

Co-edited by Franciso P V Miguel, Queer Mozambique, From the Mines to the Manas, examines sexual and gender dissent in Mozambique, starting from the colonial era to contemporary LGBTQIA+ movements. It examines the cultural and historical specificities toward gender and sexual dissidence in Mozambique that may explain its distinctive path towards decriminalizing homosexual acts in 2015. It not only assembles and interprets empirical evidence for western readers, but also brings new debates and theories from the Global South.

Dr. Epprecht's current research focuses on the social history of southern Africa, specifically the colonial era, looking into gender and sexuality in terms of cultural constructions of non-normative sexualities.
