Policy Speaker Series: Helen Cooper - The dilemma of aging and a scaleable solution
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Speaker: Helen Cooper, Distinguished Fellow, School of Policy Studies
The publication by Statistics Canada of the 2016 Census leads to the stark realisation that the consequences of changes in post Second World War fertility rates in Canada are significant with a very large population of older Canadians now, in many cases, thriving until well into their nineties and beyond. For the good of all Canadians, we must look to other than tradition methods of addressing the needs of the elderly. Since it is well established that personal autonomy, continued socialization, good nutrition and physical fitness all are factors in assisting people to live independently as they age what models can we promote that encourage these? What municipal and community services, many of which we take for granted, should be changing to address these population trends?
A light lunch will be available starting at 11:30 am. All are welcome.
