Policy Talks: William Bromm - No Second Chances for a First Impression: Public Service Election Preparations

Description:

The talk will look at the work of the public service leading up to and during an election period. This will include a discussion about the implementation of the "Caretaker Convention" and the steps taken to ensure a smooth transition for a new or returning government after the election.

William Bromm has been with the Ontario public service for almost 29 years and is recognized for expertise in the structure of government, the legal authorities of Cabinet and its Committees, the operation of the Legislative Assembly, and election and transition planning.

Over his career he has held senior policy positions with the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Citizenship, and has served as legal counsel in the Ministry of the Attorney General’s Policy Division and in the Cabinet Office. His legal expertise was recognized in 2014 when he was appointed as General Counsel.

From 2005 to 2011, William served as Legal Counsel and Executive Assistant to former Deputy Attorney General Murray Segal, and has served as legal counsel and special advisor to five Secretaries of the Cabinet, including Tony Dean, Shelly Jamieson, Peter Wallace, Steve Orsini and current Secretary of the Cabinet, Steven Davidson.
