Project Idea and Donor​

Stephen Cheeseman 

Stephen is founder and President of Chinook Power Corp., a BC-based developer of renewable energy. Chinook was successful in identifying and completing the initial development on Capital Powers’ 142 MW Quality Wind Project and is continuing to work with the BC Government, BC Hydro, First Nations and local communities on developing other wind project sites in BC.

Prior to expanding into the renewable energy field, Stephen held positions in exploration and mine geology, and senior positions in project management, marketing and sales management. Stephen has over 20 years experience in resource modelling, resource audits and information technology implementations at more than 30 mining operations around the world.  

As an advocate for clean energy, he served as a Director of the Clean Energy Association of BC (CEBC) from 2014-2020 as well as CEBC’s predecessor, the Independent Power Producers Association of BC (from 2003-2008); volunteering as Chair of CEBC’s Regulatory Committee and Chair of its Wind Committee.    He is also a Director of RE Royalties Ltd., a publicly traded royalty financing company focused on providing financing to renewable energy companies worldwide.  

Stephen is a Clean16 award recipient for his dedication and contribution to sustainability and clean capitalism. He has brought significant capital investment to rural British Columbia over the past 14 years.

Stephen holds a BSc (Honours) in the Geological Sciences from Queen's University. He is a registered member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
