Emily’s project is helping to develop a new method of detection and quantitation of microplastics in aquatic samples using fluorescence spectroscopy. Her role in this project is to set up models that will allow us to estimate the plastic-water binding coefficients for different compounds. In the lab, she tests the model predictions using preferred labelling candidates and observes the behaviours of microplastics moving through a system.
