Committees

QUAQE has a number of active committees, focused on supporting queer employees in different ways. Please contact us if you would like to get involved or are just interested in hearing more!

  • Complete (in collaboration with subcommittees) annual report to Deputy Provost (Academic Operations and Inclusion), HR (Human Resources), and HREO (Human Rights and Equity Office) for ERG status and funding (up to $1,000 per fiscal year).
  • In consultation with committee and sub-committee members, oversees mandate, structure and determines selection process for all roles.
  • Organize, plan and facilitate Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Determines how ERG funds are distributed amongst all committees / subcommittees.
  • Complete or assist subcommittees with completing other funding applications.
  • Manage and strengthen internal contacts across the university (ex. FAS).
  • Provide representative to cross-ERG committee (currently MSTeams “EquiTEA”) as well as senior leadership level requests for QUAQE participation.
  • Manage QUAQE inbox, and ensure emails are reviewed and responded to in a timely manner directly or delegates this to another subcommittee.

  • Gather information and data from membership regarding their professional development needs and plan activities / events to meet these needs that are open to all QUAQE membership.
  • Create and sustain a formal mentoring program for QUAQE members in collaboration with QWN (Queen’s Women’s Network) and ODL (Organizational Development and Learning).
  • Gather information and data from membership regarding their advocacy needs. Act as a resource and support for all matters related to the advocacy needs of the QUAQE membership. Liaise with other related organizations at Queen’s, including PAGGIS and the Human Rights and Equity office as needed.
  • Work closely with the QUAQE Communications subcommittee to advertise activities.

  • Create and distribute monthly newsletter to full QUAQE membership.
  • Develop and maintain QUAQE website and social media.
  • Liaise with other campus and local media to promote activities of QUAQE.
  • Drafting emails, messages and other correspondence on behalf of the QUAQE organizing committee.
  • Assist QUAQE subcommittees with advertising their events.

  • Solicit ideas from wider QUAQE community for events and socials.
  • Plan monthly socials for QUAQE membership including their partners and friend or allies including set-up and tear down (these can include ~2-4 larger social events a year).
  • Work closely and communicate regularly with other QUAQE (sub)committees as a resource for event planning and logistics.
  • Work closely with FAS coordinator for space booking and other required logistical items.
  • Maintain a social calendar in the QUAQE MSTeams that lists all QUAQE-run events and other local or national events of interest to the QUAQE membership.
  • Work closely with the QUAQE Communications subcommittee to advertise social events.

  • Respond to the identified needs of the QUAQE membership and other queer staff, faculty, and students (ex, in response to systemic or acts of oppression) for emergent educational campaigns, activities, and events.
  • Plan and coordinate regular educational events such as conferences, presentations and roundtables including outreach activities for the wider Queen’s and Kingston communities on behalf of the QUAQE membership.
  • Collaborate with local queer community and university groups, (ex. USW, student groups, etc) on joint outreach and education initiatives (ex, Kingston Pride).
  • Support members and others in the wider Queen’s community with relevant/appropriate educational resources related to 2SLGBTQ+ issues.
  • Liaise and collaborate with all relevant QUAQE subcommittees with respect to educational and outreach events.
  • Solicit feedback from membership about what types of support QUAQE can provide to various departments/faculties etc who request EDII information/resources from QUAQE.
