Strathy Student Working Papers on Canadian English

Strathy Student Working Papers on Canadian English features papers that address the structure or usage of the English language in Canada, broadly defined. This includes articles on grammatical analysis, second language acquisition, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, historical research, lexicography and discourse analysis. The "Canadian English" under investigation may be any variety of English spoken in any region of the country, by native or non-native speakers. English may be the sole language of analysis or may be examined within the context of other languages.

This new digital journal is hosted on QSpace. It replaces our previous working papers series which featured papers by undergraduates at Queen's University.

Call for Papers

The Strathy Language Unit invites submissions from undergraduate and graduate students for the on-line journal Strathy Student Working Papers on Canadian English. Papers are welcome on any topic related to the structure or usage of the English language in Canada, broadly defined. This may include articles dealing with grammatical analysis, second language acquisition, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, historical research, lexicography or discourse analysis. The "Canadian English" under investigation may be any variety of English spoken in any region of the country, by native or non-native speakers. English may be the only language of analysis, or it may be examined within the context of other languages.

To make a submission, please send your paper to the series editor Anastasia Riehl at riehla@queensu.ca, according to the specifications below. Please include your full name and contact information in the email but not in your paper. Your paper will be reviewed by two members of the editorial board.

Specifications for submitted papers:

  • Double-spaced
  • 12 point font
  • 2.5 cm margins
  • Maximum of 30 pages
  • Abstract of 100-150 words
  • Pdf format
  • Please exclude your name and affiliation from the paper
