Congratulations to Shima Hassanpour on her recent publication

Congratulations to Shima Hassanpour on her publication in Brain Sciences.  The paper is entitled Investigating descending pain regulation in fibromyalgia and link to altered autonomic regulation by means of functional MRI data. This study furthers our understanding of how neural activity related to pain processing is altered in fibromyalgia.

We have received CIHR funding!

The Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) has approved funding for our research program aimed at investigating how neural signaling is altered in fibromyalgia, as a means of improving our understanding of this chronic pain condition.

Our project is titled "Investigating the neurobiological basis of heightened pain and dysfunction in fibromyalgia, by means of functional magnetic resonance imaging".

New paper on how music alters pain perception

Congratulations to Jocelyn Powers on her recent publication in Frontiers in Pain Research titled:  "Music to My Senses: Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evidence of Music Analgesia Across Connectivity Networks Spanning the Brain and Brainstem".  This study demonstrates interconnected brain regions with altered connectivity in relation to altered pain responses while participants listed to music.

Studies of fibromyalgia on-going in Summer 2024

Start Date

Saturday June 1, 2024

End Date

Saturday November 30, 2024

Time

12:00 am - 12:00 am

Location

We are currently working on a series of studies using functional MRI to study people with fibromyalgia, and people who are generally healthy and about the same age, for comparison.

Some studies also involve only people without chronic pain so that we can study factors that influence the pain that we feel.

If you might be interesting in volunteering for this study, please check back for updates, or email P. Stroman at stromanp@queensu.ca to be emailed updates and information.
