Commerce '89 Professor-Student Life Award

To recognize the Smith School of Business Professor who has contributed most to the student life of the graduating class over their four years in Bachelor of Commerce Program.

To recognize the Smith School of Business Professor who has contributed most to the student life of the graduating class over their four years in Bachelor of Commerce Program.

Nomination Criteria

The criteria can include anything which contributes to student life.

Nomination Procedure

Anyone in the fourth-year class can nominate a professor for this award.

Selection Process

The winner is selected by the entire fourth-year class in a vote.

Presentation of Award

The winner is awarded an engraved plaque which is presented at the Annual Commerce Society Awards Banquet. His/Her name is published within the School of Business.

To recognize the Smith School of Business Professor who has contributed the most to students within the Commerce Program. This professor provided an exceptional level of service, or has greatly enhanced one's academic life in any way.

Nomination Criteria

The criteria is based on a professor's contribution to a student's success, either academically or in his/her exceptional level of service.

Nomination Procedure

Candidates will be nominated by the graduating class prior to voting.

Selection Process

The winner is voted upon by the entire fourth-year graduating class.

Presentation of Award

The winner is presented an engraved plaque at a Commerce event held each Spring for the graduating class.

Nature of Award

Presented by the graduating students of the MBA program.

Nomination Criteria

Nominees are judged on the basis of the professor's enthusiasm, preparation, presentation and communication skills. Professors are further evaluated on their ability to foster meaningful class discussions and to generate interest in the subject material. A sense of having contributed to the student's broader educational experience is important.

Nomination Procedure

Nomination forms are sent out in March to the students of the MBA II class only. Five MBA II signatures are required for each nomination and forms must be returned within one week to the President or the Communications Director of the MBA Society.

Selection Process

A secret ballot is conducted at the earliest opportunity after the nominations are received (preferably the next day). Each student receives two ballots. They are free to split their votes, or cast two votes for the same professor. A tie occurs when the top nominees vote totals are within 10% of one another, with the discretion of the President.

Presentation of Award

The award is presented by the President of the MBA Society at the earliest opportunity after the votes are tabulated and is presented in the professor's class or at Metamorphosis.

Professors are further evaluated on their ability to foster meaningful class discussions and to generate interest in the subject material. A sense of having contributed to the student's broader educational experience is important.

Nomination Procedure

An electronic nomination form is sent out to Master of Management Analytics students upon completion of the program in March. An instructor must be mentioned five times for their name to appear on the selection ballot. The nomination forms must be completed within one week.

Selection Process

A secret electronic ballot is conducted at the earliest opportunity after the nominations are received. This will be facilitated by the program manager and include all instructors who received 5 or more nominations.

Presentation of Award

The award is presented by the Associate Director of Masters Programs at the convocation reception in May.
