“The School of Religion considered many options and consulted with a number of stakeholders on this matter, and recommended to me that a temporary suspension of admissions would allow the School the opportunity to re-evaluate its programming. I agree with that recommendation,” says Dean Susan Mumm. 

 

Applications to theology programs are declining at schools across North America, including Queen’s. Despite a decade of recruitment efforts, enrolment in theology programs has steadily decreased every year. 

 

The School of Religion will continue to offer a full complement of theology courses until August 2015 to ensure that students currently enrolled full-time in theology programs can graduate, and will work with part-time students to forge a plan for their studies. There will be no negative impact on the school’s faculty members and staff.

 

The temporary suspension of admissions applies to the Master of Divinity, Master of Theological Studies, and Bachelor of Theology programs. The School of Religion will continue to offer both undergraduate and masters programs in Religious Studies.
