Conference puts spotlight on health and human rights

Dr. Michael Rachlis gives his keynote address, “Beyond Public and Private Debate to the Second Stage of Medicare.”

Students from across campus gathered last weekend for the 13th annual Health and Human Rights Conference, an interdisciplinary, student-run symposium that highlights key issues related to global wellness.

The conference, which took place on Nov. 1 and 2, featured workshops on Canada’s drug shortage problem, chronic pain, refugee health, violence against women, and mental health and wellness, among other topics. It also featured keynote addresses from health policy expert Dr. Michael Rachlis, writer and AIDS activist Stephen Lewis, and local peace activist Judith Wyatt.

Students from a variety of disciplines attended the student-organized conference.
