Flags on campus are lowered in memory of E.R. Yendt, medical doctor and Queen’s University professor emeritus.

Dr. Yendt obtained his MD and residency training in Toronto and undertook a research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He served as chair of the Department of Medicine at Queen’s from 1968 to 1976, after which he continued his career in clinical investigation, teaching and patient care at Queen’s. He published his last research paper at the age of 83 and continued to see patients until the age of 86.

Dr. Yendt was the recipient of numerous awards, including a 50th Anniversary Award from the Canadian Cancer Society, the Lindsay Fraser Memorial Award from the Osteoporosis Society of Canada, and the Canada 125 Medal. He has served as vice-president of the American Clinical and Climatological Society, President of the Canadian Society of Nephrology, and as President of the National Cancer Institute.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 9 pm on Thursday, August 8 at the Robert J. Reid & Sons’ The Chapel on the Corner, 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie Street), Kingston. Funeral Service will take place at 2 pm on Friday, August 9 at St. George's Cathedral (corner of Johnson St. & King St). Private interment at Cataraqui Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, Ottawa Heart Institute or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
