Heather Stuart, Bell Mental Health and Anti-Stigma Research Chair at Queen’s University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, spoke about her reasearch and the effects of the stigma associated with mental illness at the inaugural Annual Bell Lecture this week in Toronto. The lecture, entitled Breaking the Silence, was aimed at raising awareness about mental health and helping to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.

Dr. Stuart was joined by author James FitzGerald whose latest book, What Disturbs Our Blood: A Son's Quest to Redeem the Past, won the Writers’ Trust Non-Fiction Prize. The book explores the madness and high achievement within his prominent Toronto medical family.

The Annual Bell Lecture, as well as the Bell Mental Health and Anti-Stigma Research Chair held by Dr. Stuart, was established at Queen’s with a generous donation from Bell Let’s Talk to the Queen’s Initiative Campaign.
