Jim Lee will assume the position of deputy vice-chancellor, international, at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. 

Jim Lee marked his final day as Queen’s vice-provost (international) on Oct. 31, and will soon be leaving the university to assume the position of deputy vice-chancellor, international, at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. In his new position, Dr. Lee, who will report directly to Macquarie’s vice-chancellor, will be responsible for expanding the university’s international profile and recruitment outreach.

Effective Nov. 1, Kathy O’Brien will serve as interim executive director, international, while maintaining her current position as executive director of the office of the provost. During this transitional period, the provost will assume academic responsibility for the international portfolio, and he and the interim executive director will lead a review of the international portfolio. The review, which will be informed by input from external consultants, is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2014.

“I want to thank Jim for the many contributions he has made to Queen’s, both as a faculty member and as an administrator,” says Alan Harrison, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic). “In his most recent position, he has provided valuable leadership in the international portfolio, and we wish him well at Macquarie.”

Prior to assuming the role of vice-provost (international) at Queen’s in 2012, Dr. Lee served as associate dean (international and research) in the Faculty of Arts and Science. A PhD graduate of Princeton, Dr. Lee returned to his undergraduate alma mater in 1996, joining the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering as a Queen’s National Scholar.
