Queen's renews education partnership with Trent University

The Faculty of Education at Queen’s and the Faculty of Arts and Science at Trent University have renewed their partnership agreement to operate the Queen’s-Trent Concurrent Teacher Education program for another five-year term.

“We are delighted to be continuing our longstanding partnership in Concurrent Teacher Education with Trent,” says Steve Elliott, dean of the Queen’s Faculty of Education.

The Queen’s-Trent Concurrent Teacher Education program enables students to complete Queen’s education courses and placement experiences in Ontario schools while concurrently completing their Bachelor’s degree at Trent, and then to complete their fifth year of the program at Queen’s in Kingston.

“We are happy to be renewing our relationship with Queen’s,” says Trent University provost Gary Boire. “The Queen’s-Trent partnership is an excellent example of inter-university collaboration that benefits students, faculty and staff at both institutions.”

About half of the students in the program complete their placement experiences in Peterborough-area schools with both local boards and many graduates work in the area. Graduates often continue their association with the program, acting as host teachers for placements, returning to campus to help with the admission process or to present workshops for current students in the program.

Founded in 1973, the Queen’s-Trent Concurrent Teacher Education program is one of the oldest inter-university concurrent education partnerships in the province. The partnership was established in response to interest in maintaining a teacher education program in Peterborough, after the Peterborough Teacher’s College closed.
