Ten selected for Queen's honorary degrees

Ten remarkable individuals will be recognized with honorary degrees at Queen’s University’s spring convocation ceremonies. The recipients include Canadian singer Holly Cole, Kingston community leader Regina Rosen and other prominent individuals in the fields of health, science and technology.

This year’s recipients include:

Holly Cole is a Canadian singer and an active philanthropist who has performed benefit concerts for many organizations, including the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Friday, June 6 at 2:30 pm.

Regina Rosen is a graduate of Queen’s University and has worked tirelessly to strengthen the relationships between the university, the community and society. Friday, June 6 at 10 am.

Bernard Langer has had a major impact on training and mentoring a generation of liver transplant surgeons around the world. Thursday, May 22 at 2:30 pm.

Carolyn Acker has spent her entire career working to provide educational support and resources to disadvantaged communities. Wednesday, June 4 at 10 am.

William Macdonald Evans has spent his 30 year career working to position Canada as a global leader in space science, technology and application development. Thursday, June 5 at 2:30 pm.

Robert Prichard has made significant contributions to Canadian politics and industry. Monday, June 9 at 2:30 pm.

Ronald Lee has dedicated his professional career to the cause of human rights for the Roma people, one of the world’s most marginalized ethnic groups. Wednesday, June 11 at 6:30 pm.

Vilayanur Ramachandran has done pioneering work in several fields including brain plasticity and the recovery of brain function. Thursday, June 12 at 2:30 pm.

Carlos Varela Cerezo’s music is dedicated to bridging the tensions between Cuba and the United States. Friday, June 13 at 10 am.

Anne Marie Bonkalo was the first female Crown Attorney in Brampton and the first female Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice. Friday, June 13 at 2:30 pm.
