The welcome back barbecue held at Four Directions Aboriginal Student Centre on Wednesday evening provided the perfect opportunity for alumna Carol Ann Budd (Sc’89) to present a contribution in support of programming at the central gathering place for Indigenous members of the Queen’s community.

Ms. Budd offered the gift to Four Directions through her work as a financial consultant at Investors Group in Kingston.

“I’m very proud to present a cheque from Investors Group to the Four Directions Aboriginal Student Centre at Queen’s University. Our Volunteer Support Program is based on the core belief that community service enriches the quality of life in a community,” says Ms. Budd.

“Investors Group developed this program to recognize the essential contribution its consultants and employees make to their communities, and my application was based on my volunteer work as an alumni member of the Aboriginal Council of Queen’s University. The mandate of the council is aligned with my core belief that education can help alleviate many of the social problems facing Aboriginal communities. Four Directions is the hub for First Nations students and plays an important role in making Queen’s an inviting and supportive place to pursue a post-secondary education.”

Ms. Budd was recently featured in a Gazette profile, which describes her path as an engineering student at Queen’s in the ’80s and her successful career as a research scientist and financial consultant.
