Employees can place departmental IT orders through Queen’s preferred suppliers now that the Campus Computer Store has closed.

“The preferred suppliers we’ve qualified will be familiar to many departments on campus,” says Andy Green, Director, Strategic Procurement Services (SPS). “These vendors are knowledgeable and will offer a high level of support and service to departments as they source the equipment that best fits their needs.”

The ordering process is straightforward, and I am confident that the preferred suppliers will deliver competitively priced products that our faculty and staff require to complete their work.

The online portals established are for departmental purchases only, with the additional convenience of accepting Queen’s procurement cards for payment, and include delivery. SPS approval is required to access the IT preferred supplier portals.

“The online portals are a welcome development for IT procurement at Queen’s,” says Roger Boyes, Director, IT, Smith School of Business. “The ordering process is straightforward, and I am confident that the preferred suppliers will deliver competitively priced products that our faculty and staff require to complete their work.”

The university reviewed the Campus Computer Store and other ancillary operations on campus during the 2014-15 fiscal year. The review recommended closing the store by April 29, 2016, with retail services discontinued, and core services that support the academic and business requirements of the university transitioning to existing shared services.

“The move to departmental-level IT procurement is a natural extension of our existing service advising faculty and staff on their IT needs,” says Bob Burge, Director, Student and Support Services, Faculty of Education. “It also bolsters our oversight and inventory control management.”

Information on the new portals and how to obtain access is available here. SPS maintains a number of vendor links that direct Queen’s employees to personal discounts. Visit the employee discounts page on the SPS website for more information.
