SDG Month Canada is a national collaboration that invites universities and colleges to organize programming to increase engagement with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Throughout March, Queen’s University is joining institutions across the country in recognizing SDG Month Canada, a national initiative led by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) that highlights the role post-secondary institutions play in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SDG Month offers an opportunity to assess how the Queen’s community is contributing to solutions for some of the world’s most pressing challenges, from climate action and public health to equity and inclusive economic growth, through research, teaching and learning, partnerships, and community engagement. A dedicated SDG Month at Queen’s calendar is available on the Principal’s Office website showcasing events and activities taking place across the university, with new offerings continuing to be added.
“As a research-intensive university with deep community roots and global reach, Queen’s is committed to advancing the SDGs through discovery, collaboration, and education,” says Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane. “SDG Month provides an important opportunity to highlight the extraordinary work of students, staff, and faculty and to reaffirm our shared responsibility to build a more sustainable world.”
Feature event: Dr. Alaa Murabit
Alaa Murabit is a Libyan-Canadian physician, policy maker, and strategist focused on health, inclusive security, and sustainable development.
As the feature event of SDG Month at Queen’s, the university will welcome internationally renowned sustainability advocate Dr. Alaa Murabit for a special keynote talk on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
An architect of the SDGs and one of Canada’s Women of Impact, Dr. Murabit will explore why human security, equity, and sustainable development are essential to global stability in an era of “poly-crisis,” marked by pandemics, climate instability, and economic fragility. Drawing on her experience as a UN High-Level Commissioner and as Inaugural Managing Partner for Sustainable Growth at 500 Global, she will challenge audiences to rethink traditional frameworks of security and consider how proactive systems design and regenerative societies offer a viable path to long-term stability and prosperity.
The event is made possible through the generous support of Universities Canada.
