The Queen’s community is remembering Professor Geoff Hodgetts, who passed away Nov. 22. He was a family physician and professor in the Queen’s Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Hodgetts championed inclusive, patient-centred curricula responsive to practice in diverse communities. He played a lead role in the Enhanced Skills programs and in strengthening international partnerships, including the Department of Family Medicine’s connection with the Falkland Islands.
Dr. Hodgetts’s influence extended beyond Queen’s and Kingston. He helped rebuild family medicine in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the war, supporting the training of a new generation of physicians and contributing to the renewal of the health system. He later worked in Afghanistan and other challenging settings, applying the principles of relationship-centred, community-based primary care where they were most needed, and helping strengthen policy, training, and practice.
The Department of Family Medicine says they will remember Dr. Hodgetts’s analytical mind and global perspective, as well as his well-timed humour and storytelling abilities.
