On behalf of Queen’s University, I would like to congratulate Ian Arthur on his election as Member of Provincial Parliament for Kingston and the Islands. Mr. Arthur put tremendous effort into the campaign and I look forward to working with him as our new MPP.

I would like to thank Sophie Kiwala for her service and support of Queen’s over the past four years, as well as the other candidates in Kingston and the Islands – Gary Bennett, Heather Cunningham, Andre Imbeault, and Robert Kiley – for their hard work during the campaign. I would also like to recognize the 18 Queen’s alumni who stood as candidates in ridings across the province.

I also congratulate Mr. Ford and the Ontario PC Party on their electoral success. Universities are key drivers of Ontario’s prosperity and Queen’s looks forward to working with the new government to help advance post-secondary education, research, and innovation in Ontario.

A campaign is a tremendous undertaking that requires sacrifice and determination from many people, including the candidates, their families, and numerous volunteers. Our democracy is strengthened when diverse viewpoints have the opportunity to be debated in the public forum, and all of those who put their names forward as candidates deserve to be recognized for their commitment to the democratic process.
