ARCHIVE: January 2009

VANDALISM / MISCHIEF UNDER $5000:

January 31, 3:20 am: Jean Royce Hall - An external trades company was called in to repair or replace the glass in a number of exterior doors vandalized in the Residence.

January 12, 9:06 pm: West Campus - The Emergency Report Centre was informed a vehicle had its window smashed sometime during the day. No property was initially noticed stolen from inside.


ATTEMPTED THEFT:

January 31, 12:50 am: McNeill House - The ERC received a call reporting two males were spotted attempting to steal a full-size refrigerator from inside the Residence.  The suspects were chased off and refrigerator left behind before Security staff arrived.  Residence maintenance were informed to attend and return the refrigerator back where it came from.


MALICIOUS FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION:

January 30, 11:05 pm: Morris Hall -  KFD and Security responded to three malicious fire alarm pull station activations in the Residence.

January 25, 2:40 am: Gordon Brockington House - KFD and Security responded to two malicious fire alarm pull station activations in the Residence. It was also observed that some students did not evacuate the building during the initial alarm, and those details were provided to Residence Administration for possible follow up.

January 25, 1:25 am: Morris Hall - KFD and Security responded to a malicious fire alarm pull station activation in the Residence. 
NOTE: this false fire alarm delayed Security Supervisors from attending a medical assist incident elsewhere on campus.

January 24, 7:20 pm: Adelaide Hall - KFD and Security responded to a malicious fire alarm pull station activation in the Residence.

January 16, 1:25 am: JDUC - KFD and Security responded to a malicious fire alarm pull station activation in the building.

January 6, 3:40 am: Morris Hall - Residence staff reported discovering someone had emptied a fire extinguisher on the ground floor of the building. The area as subsequently cleaned and the extinguisher replaced.


SUSPICIOUS PERSONS / ACTIVITY:

January 27, 3:40 am: Student Housing Area - A student reported an unknown man had just walked into their unlocked apartment near main campus, vomited on the floor, and then passed out.  The individual had since regained consciousness and Security Supervisors attended to meet with the tenants.  Since the suspect was unresponsive to Security, and was determined to be unaffiliated with the University, Kingston City Police were contacted to arrest the individual and remove him from the house.


FIRE (ALARM) RELATED:

January 26, 12:35 pm: An Clachan Conplex - KFD, Campus Security, and Community Housing staff responded to a fire alarm caused by a cooking pot fire in one of the apartments.

January 25, 9:10 pm: JDUC - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence caused by burnt popcorn.

January 25, 4;00 am: Jean Royce Hall - Security & KFD responded to a fire alarm caused by a fault in the alarm system. It was also observed that some students did not evacuate the building during the initial alarm, and those details were provided to Residence Administration for possible follow up.

January 17, 2:25 am: Victoria Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence caused by a steam leak in the basement.

January 15, 7:05 pm: Chown Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence caused by a sensor problem.

January 15, 9:18 am: An Clachan Complex - KFD, Campus Security, and Community Housing staff responded to a fire alarm caused by an unattended pot burning on a stove after power was restored to the building.

January 15, 8:46 am: Chown Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence caused by a sensor problem.

January 14, 7:10 pm: Waldron Tower - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence caused by burnt toast.

January 14, 1:42 pm: Chown Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence activated by cooking smoke.

January 13, 8:07 am: PhysEd Centre - KFD and Security, along with both EH&S and PPS, attended to a fire located in the building's laundry room. 

January 12, 10:40 pm: Chown Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence caused by burnt popcorn.

January 10, 2:30 pm: Chown Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence caused by smoke from an item left unattended on a stove.

January 2, 11:25 pm: Leonard Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence caused by cooking smoke.


MISCELLANEOUS:

Car parked on stairsJanuary 25, 3:40 pm: Mackintosh Corry -  The Emergency Report Centre was informed a vehicle was 'parked' half way down the steps located outside the building's main south east entrance. 

The driver was not present when Security staff arrived, and Kingston City Police were informed of the incident.  The vehicle was removed later in the day.


DISORDERLY CONDUCT:

January 18, 1:40 am: JDUC - Campus Security was contacted by Student Constables to assist with 4 males attempting to gain access to Alfie's Pub with fake IDs.


THEFT / BREAK-IN (PERSONAL PROPERTY):

January 10, 4:50 pm: Leonard Hall - A student reported his wallet was stolen in the cafeteria. When the incident was reported to his bank/credit card company, he was informed a fraudulent charge had already been made on campus with his card.

January 10, 3:45 pm: McNeill House - A student reported two gaming systems (Nintendo64 and Super Nintendo), their games, and controllers were stolen from a Common Room in the Residence.


VEHICLE BREAK-IN:

January 6, 7:40 pm: West Campus - A caller reported their vehicle was broken into while parked at West Campus and an older model stereo system was stolen from inside.
