ARCHIVE: February 2009

MALICIOUS FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION:

February 28, 4:03 am: Victoria Hall - The fire alarm system activated in the Residence after a fire extinguisher was discharged in the C Wing stairwell and activated multiple smoke detectors.  KFD & Security also noted someone had pushed a custodial cart down the stairs, which posed a hazard / impediment to anyone attempting to evacuate the building using that route.

February 28, 2:25 am: Victoria Hall - Both KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence . Upon arrival, it was discovered several pull stations had been activated and a fire extinguisher discharged in the basement.

February 28, 2:12 am: Jean Royce Hall - Both KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence . Upon arrival, it was discovered pull stations had been activated on the 1st floor of Angus and the 4th floor of Bouche houses.

February 27, 11:34 pm: Morris Hall - Both KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence . Upon arrival, it was discovered several pull stations had been activated and a fire extinguisher discharged in the basement.

February 8, 10;05 pm; Jean Royce Hall - KFD and Security responded to a malicious fire alarm pull station activation in the Residence. 

February 8, 2:36 am: Victoria Hall - Security & KFD attended a fire alarm in the Residence that activated when a fire extinguisher was discharged near or onto a smoke detector.  KFD ventilated the area and an electrician called in to replace the damaged detector.

February 2, 3:05 am: An Clachan Complex - Security & KFD attended a fire alarm at the building and discovered two pull stations were activated and a fire extinguisher discharged in a stairwell.


FIRE (ALARM) RELATED:

February 27, 11:17 am: Victoria Hall - The fire alarm activated in this Residence due to hot water steam setting of a smoke detector.

February 25, 10:15 pm: Victoria Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence activated by cooking smoke.

February 15, 9:20 pm: An Clachan Complex - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the building activated by cooking smoke.

February 14, 3:16 am: Chown Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence activated by an indeterminate cause.

February 12, 7:05 pm: Jean Royce Hall - KFD and Security responded to a fire alarm in the Residence activated by an indeterminate cause.

February 4, 3:08 am: JDUC - The fire alarm was activated inside the building's Residence area due to a reported burning smell. KFD attended and the cause determined to be a light ballast.


THEFT / BREAK-IN (PERSONAL PROPERTY):

February 26, 6:15 pm: Mackintosh Cory Hall - Campus Security was informed a laptop computer was accidentally left behind in a room at about 6:30 pm the previous evening, and it was missing when the owner returned at 8:00 am today. The laptop, a blue Dell Studio computer in a Targus laptop bag, is assumed stolen.

February 26, 12:47 pm Stauffer Library - A student reported her Apple iBook G4 laptop computer was stolen while left unattended for a short time.  The owner had asked an unknown man nearby to watch the computer during her absence, but other he and the laptop were gone when she returned..  The computer's serial# is 4H5322525E6 .

February 10, 9:47 pm: Victoria Hall - A student reported his red & black Swiss Army Backpack was stolen, along with a laptop computer, library books, and headphones that were inside it.


FIRE:

February 25, 11:50 pm: Waldron Tower - The fire alarm activated in this Residence after someone set fire to the edges of a poster hung in the 2nd floor west wing hallway.  Security & KFD attended the call and both Residences Administration and EH&S were informed of the incident.


VANDALISM / MISCHIEF UNDER $5000:

February 7, 1:50 am: McNeill House - The ERC was informed an individual threw a rock through the basement common room in the Residence and then ran back inside the Gordon Brockington Residence nearby.  The broken window and glass was tended to by maintenance staff and Residences administration notified of the incident and suspect description.

February 1, 9:25: Mackintosh Corry Hall - The ERC was informed an exterior window had been cracked at the building. PPS was informed so it could be replaced the next business day.

February 1, 7:05 am: Stirling Hall - The ERC was informed a window was shattered in an exterior door in the building. Security attended and determined the window was still secure but informed PPS to replace it the next business day.


DISORDERLY CONDUCT / ASSAULT:

February 7, 1:00 am: JDUC - Security staff were called to Alfie's Pub where a StuCon had been assaulted. The suspect, who is a student at another local College, fled the scene soon after the assault occurred. Kingston City Police also attended this incident.


SUSPICIOUS PERSONS / ACTIVITY:

February 7, 12:55 am: Student Housing Area - The ERC was notified by Ambulance dispatch that Paramedics were enroute to a home believed to be occupied by Queen's students.  Security staff attended and were informed two unknown and intoxicated local high school students had simply walked into the house. The most intoxicated of the two entered a bathroom and laid down on the floor with vomit on himself and the tenants called an ambulance to assess his condition. 

The individual was uncooperative and combative with the paramedics so Kingston Police were also contacted to attend.  He was eventually transported to KGH by ambulance and the other teenager remained with police.  

The students living in the house confirmed their front door had been left unlocked, allowing the two teens to walk inside uninvited.


VEHICLE BREAK-IN:

February 2, 8:40 pm: West Campus - A caller reported her vehicle had been forced open and some items stolen from inside.
