In the spring of 1999, two of our Security Supervisors underwent a rigorous training course specifically for law and security personnel working with bicycles (See "Previous Bike Patrol Updates" below for more details). Campus Security received funding from Queen’s University during 1998-1999 for the purchase of two mountain bikes with the intent to further this program. In 2001, our department purchased a third bicycle and additional equipment to allow our regularly scheduled student patrols to participate in the bike program. This program was launched initially as a part of Campus Security’s vision to increase our visibility on campus and to decrease our response time to situations requiring our assistance. To date, we have received a number of favourable comments from students and staff expressing their support for this program. Together with the greater Queen’s community, we will continue working to maintain the safety of Queen’s campus for all students, staff, and visitors. Look for Security Bike Patrols specifically during Orientation Week and Alumni Weekend. During
the fall of 1998, Queen’s University Campus Security developed a new initiative for
patrolling the Queen’s Campus. The Bicycle Patrol Program
was implemented by then Security Supervisor Jeff Garrah with the
support and guidance of Constable Brian Milner, a member
of the Bicycle
Patrol Unit for the Kingston City Police.
