PREPARE is a certification course offered by the Campus Security and Emergency Services department at minimal cost (to cover supplies) to University members. The course can be requested by any group and is limited to a maximum of 20 participants, and is 4 hours in length. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize early warning signs of anger or hostility
  • Effectively utilize personal space, body language and paraverbal communication to relive tension and defuse hostility.
  • Employ verbal intervention strategies to de-escalate situations before they become more disruptive or potentially dangerous.
  • Maintain on objective and professional attitude when responding to an agitated individual
  • Invoke four priorities essential to your organizations Violence Response Procedures.
  • Effectively debrief once Tension Reduction occurs
