A framework to make every action count

To realize our vision and shared priorities, Queen’s has a planning framework that provides a common structure for planning across the university.

The framework supports consistent, evidence-informed planning at the institutional, faculty, and unit levels. It guides how strategies, initiatives, and investments we develop are aligned so that every action contributes to clear outcomes across three interconnected domains: academic mission, organization, and community.

Academic mission

The academic mission sits at the heart of our identity and purpose. Planning should ensure teaching and research are excellent, well-integrated, interdisciplinary, inclusive, and globally relevant, and that students are prepared to thrive in a complex world.

Organization

We should operate as a high-performing, mission-aligned institution, with planning that strengthens the systems, structures, and governance needed for academic excellence, resilience, and strategic clarity.

Community

People are the foundation of our success. Planning should enable faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners to contribute meaningfully through equity, inclusion, sustainability, and academic excellence.

Aligning our plans

The Bicentennial Vision sets our long-term direction through 2041 and serves as the reference point for all planning across the university. We will update existing plans through established governance and renewal cycles and, in the interim, interpret and apply them in alignment with the Bicentennial Vision.
