Leslie Dal Cin was named this year’s recipient of the T. Geoffrey Flynn Advancement Champion Award in recognition of her commitment to alumni engagement. Ms. Dal Cin, Director of Athletics and Recreation, was presented with the award by Tom Harris, Vice-Principal (Advancement) at a ceremony held in the Athletics and Recreation Centre.

Ms. Dal Cin has been active throughout her time at Queen’s in promoting alumni relations and philanthropy in connection with athletics and recreation, and this award provides particular recognition for her outstanding contributions to Homecoming 2013.

Vice-Principal Advancement Tom Harris presents the T. Geoffrey Flynn Advancement Champion Award to Leslie Dal Cin, Director of Athletics and Recreation.

“Leslie strives for excellence in everything she does, and from the very beginning of our Homecoming planning she was focused on creating an unforgettable experience for our alumni,” says Vice-Principal Harris. “She and her team went beyond expectations to deliver outstanding events and the result was a truly memorable and inspiring Homecoming for our alumni.”

The many initiatives that Ms. Dal Cin and her team undertook included: ensuring that as many men’s and women’s teams as possible had home games scheduled during homecoming, so that alumni could attend; discounted alumni passes and tours of the Athletics and Recreation Centre were made available; and a special bus service was brought in to transport the Tri-Colour Guard (50+ reunion) and the 25th anniversary class.

“I am humbled to be the recipient of the 2013 Flynn Advancement Champion Award. Working with our alumni has been an incredible experience,” says Ms. Dal Cin. “In sport, individual recognition comes as a result of the collective and focused efforts and energy of the entire team. In receiving the Flynn award I would very much like to acknowledge and thank the entire Athletics and Recreation team whose commitment and contributions are indelibly a part of our success on and off the field of play and in making this tremendous award possible.”

The award was established in 2003 in honour of T. Geoffrey Flynn, a Queen’s professor emeritus of biochemistry and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, who contributed greatly to strengthening the ties between academics and philanthropy at Queen’s. The award is presented annually to a member of the Queen's community who has made a significant contribution to linking advancement activities with excellence at Queen's.
