By Communications Staff,

Flags on campus are lowered in memory of James Cannon, a retired professor in the Department of Geography.

Dr. Cannon came to Queen’s in 1969 and was a faculty member in Geography until his retirement in 1997. Prior to Queen’s he attended McMaster University where he played in net for the 1963 Championship McMaster Marauders hockey team, and where he became the first Marauder to be inducted into the McMaster Sports Hall of Fame for hockey in 1985. He went on to earn his doctorate at the University of Washington.

On Monday, Aug. 25, friends are invited to gather at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #201 (103 Talbot St. North) in Essex, Ontario, from 3-8 pm for a celebration of his life. A memorial service will be held in Kingston at a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Windsor & Essex Country, the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation or a charity of your choice.
