As part of Queen’s continuing efforts to promote health and wellness for Queen’s staff, the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) and Human Resources are continuing to partner to offer free fitness classes for 12 weeks starting on Monday, Jan. 11.

The Organizational Development and Learning team at Human Resources is announcing the return of the free online fitness classes to the Learning Catalogue lineup in the winter term.

As part of Queen’s continuing efforts to promote health and wellness for Queen’s staff, the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) and HR are continuing to partner to offer free fitness classes for 12 weeks starting on Monday, Jan. 11.

Many of these classes mirror the in-person classes delivered over the past 10 years but they have been modified to a new online format to better serve Queen’s employees who continue to work at home.

“We’ve been offering fitness classes in this format since May,” says Mary Smida, Training Coordinator in the Organizational Development and Learning Unit. “We all recognize the importance of physical fitness for our general well-being, and we’d like to thank Gareth Cunningham and his team at the ARC for their continued support in finding ways to help our staff stay healthy and keep up their exercise routines during these unusual times.”

The response from participants, new and former, has been positive:

“I participated in the Tuesday class, and it was a great way to break up the workday! Much needed exercise as we are not able to do much else. Thank you so much to everyone who worked on arranging these classes,” on participant noted.

Some of the instructors will be familiar to regular fitness class participants, but there are some new faces as part of the ARC’s efforts to provide a range of fitness alternatives. On offer for the winter are some of the staff favourites but some new ones will be added including Triple Threat Cardio and Pilo HIIT.

These online classes are scheduled during the lunch hour and can be accessed from the convenience of your own home. Classes run daily, Monday through Friday starting at noon, with an additional class on Saturday mornings to get you going for the weekend.

Any questions about these classes should be directed to hrodl@queensu.ca.
