Queen’s welcomes all campus community members to attend a sacred fire ceremony on Agnes Benedickson Field at 1:30 pm ET on Friday, Sept. 30 to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Join other students, faculty, and staff for an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of Canada’s residential school system and hear how we can continue to learn and advance reconciliation together.

Running from 1:30 – 3pm, the event will include ceremonial elements led by Queen’s Elders-in-Residence and special remarks by Kanonhsyonne (Janice Hill), Associate Vice-Principal (Indigenous Initiatives); Patrick Deane, Principal and Vice-Chancellor; and Teri Shearer, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic).

Immediately prior to the Sacred Fire Ceremony the Survivors Flag will be raised outside of Richardson Hall, starting at 1pm. Community members are welcomed to attend and join in a moment of silence before crossing the street to begin the Sacred Fire Ceremony.

Attendees are encouraged to wear orange shirts in a show of solidarity, and for those who cannot attend in person, the event will be broadcast via online livestream.
