Queen’s University’s annual campaign for the United Way has achieved its fundraising goal, with the Queen’s community donating a record-setting $490,166.
“The members of the Queen’s United Way Committee extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support during our latest campaign,” says James Ligthart, chair of the Queen's United Way Committee. “Thanks to the continued generosity by the Queen’s community during extremely challenging economic times, we are thrilled to announce that the 2023 Queen's community campaign has achieved a new record for the university and the Kingston region, raising more than $490,000 for the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox, and Addington.”
The overall United Way KFLA campaign raised $3.92 million, topping its goal of $3.82 million.
The United Way KFLA continues to collaborate closely with local partners to address growing areas of need in our community. The funds raised through the Queen’s campaign will have a significant local impact on key challenges such as food security, mental health and addiction support, and homelessness.
Queen’s donors play a critical role in supporting more than 54,000 individuals in our community through the campaign. These essential funds are critical to supporting programs that help the university advance the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) of No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Gender Equality, and Quality and Education in the community.
Queen’s staff, faculty, and retirees are leaders in the community and have created the largest workplace and retiree campaign within the region. A report by Deloitte showed that Queen’s community members annually raise well over $1 million to support local causes while students put in thousands of volunteer hours with local agencies and programs.
