Effective today, through Jan. 31, 2023, University Avenue between Union Street and Earl Street will be closed to through-traffic. The east sidewalk by the John Deutsch University Centre (JDUC) is also closed.

A hard barrier is now in place at the intersection of University Avenue and Union Street. At the intersection of University Avenue and Earl Street a “local traffic only” sign is in place to allow vehicles to access buildings and parking from the north – but no through-traffic is permitted. The closure will enhance safety given the large volume of construction vehicles removing debris from the demolition of the west wing of the JDUC, which is undergoing a significant renovation.

Pedestrians can still use the west sidewalk and the bike lane is open for cyclists. Traffic, transit, and emergency vehicles are being rerouted around the closure. The Queen's and Kingston communities are thanked for their patience as this work is carried out.
