Faith and Spiritual Life has recently introduced a daily social media event that encourages students, staff and faculty wellbeing by promoting outdoor activities and enjoying moments in nature.

We Thrive Outside posts on Facebook and Instagram include a nature photo, an inspirational quote and a prompt for response. Students who participate are entered in a weekly draw for a $15 Starbucks gift card.

“During the pandemic, ‘stay at home’ orders can easily be translated to ‘stay inside’ orders,” says Associate Chaplain, the Reverend Wendy Luella Perkins. “We hope this program will help the Queen’s community remember how nourishing and renewing it can be to get some fresh air, hear the birds sing, and feel the sun on our faces.”

Posts from the first week of February include prompts asking community members to respond with ways that they are caring for themselves and connecting to nature on a daily basis.

“It is too easy to get in a rut at our desks and trapped in front of our screens,” says Interfaith Chaplain Kate Johnson. “We hope this campaign will help people get outside to catch joy and perspective.”

Students, staff and faculty are invited to participate through Instagram or Facebook. More information on all ongoing programming can be found on the Faith and Spiritual Life event page.
