External Awards

Ontario Graduate Scholarship

The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) program is funded in part by the Province of Ontario and is designed to encourage excellence in graduate studies at the master’s and doctoral levels. OGS awards are merit-based scholarships available to graduate students in all graduate disciplines in Ontario universities.

Scholarship Value: $15,000 for one academic year, paid out in 3 equal instalments.

Indigenous Students

Indigenous domestic students who are studying in Ontario are eligible to be put forward by their Queen's home Department for an OGS Indigenous Award.  In order to be considered for this award, the applicant must have self-identified by checking the relevant box in the online OGS application. Normally, the Department may put only one student forward for this award through the annual internal fellowships competition held in May/June.

International Students

International students who are studying in Ontario with a student study permit and who have established a Canadian bank account are eligible to be put forward by their Queen's home Department for an OGS International Award.  Normally, the Department may put only one student forward for this award through the annual internal fellowships competition held in May/June.  

SSHRC Canada Graduate Research Scholarships

The Canada Graduate Research Scholarship—Master’s program provides financial support to high-calibre scholars who are engaged in an eligible master’s or, in some cases, doctoral program in Canada. This support allows these scholars to concentrate more fully on their studies in their chosen fields.

Scholarship Value: $27,000 for one academic year

*Queen's provides an automatic one-time top-up of $5000 (Master's) to all incoming federal SSHRCCIHR and NSERC award winners.

**All applicants to the M.PL. program whose applications are complete and accepted before March 1 are automatically considered for University fellowships and Queen's Graduate Awards but applicants are strongly urged to apply for external awards.
