Welcome to Queen’s School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP). Our accredited two‑year Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MPL) blends classroom learning, collaborative projects with real clients, and a paid summer internship to build practical skills and professional experience. The MPL degree program is fully accredited by the Professional Standards Board for the Planning Profession in Canada. Specialize in Land Use & Real Estate, Environmental Planning, or Health & Social Planning and choose a course, report, or thesis pathway while learning from dedicated faculty and a diverse, collegial cohort.
SURP’s core faculty combine years of professional experience with strong research skills and a passion for promoting learning; they are complemented by highly qualified adjunct lecturers who are practicing professional planners. Planners are in high demand across Canada to address the climate emergency, housing shortages, social inequities, and major infrastructure priorities — and over 90% of SURP graduates find planning-related employment within three months, benefit from strong alumni networks and professional connections, and gain global perspectives through exchanges, international studios, conferences, and field trips to Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal.
