Sean Purdy

Sean Purdy completed his doctorate in 2003, then taught as an assistant professor at Temple University in Philadelphia and at the University of Brasília. Since 2006, he is an associate professor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil where he teaches the History of the United States, History of the Americas and Marxist Historiography. In 2009, he was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Chicago. He has published a textbook on the history of the US in Portuguese and various academic articles in US, Canadian, Brazilian and British journals as well as dozens of short articles in popular history magazines in Brazil. His website - www.seanpurdy.org - has a wide selection of his writings and activities. He is now conducting comparative research on slums, ghettos and favelas in the Americas, 1940s-1990s. He is the proud father of a 9-year old boy, Gabriel, partner of Miria Gomes do Nascimento and an ardent supporter of Corinthians soccer team.
