Melanie Ng Wins Bursary

Melanie Ng, an MA student, has been awarded a bursary by the Canadian Battlefields Foundation Study to participate in a Battlefield Study Tour 25 May to 11 June 2018. She is one of 12 university students selected from applicants across Canada who will visit Ypres, the Somme, Vimy Ridge, the Normandy battlefields and participate in ceremonies marking the 74th anniversary of D-Day as part of the tour. Participants will lead on-site discussions, including presenting a short biography of a Canadian soldier buried or memorialized along the route. They will also keep a journal and blog their experiences. Melanie’s research on the experience of selected visible minorities and indigenous Canadians in the armed forces during both world wars in her HIST 876 Canada at War class, as part of her MA research theme of “Race, Immigration, and Agency of Ethnic Minorities in Canada,” has prepared her for the tour and will contribute to her future career interest in public history. For more information on these tours, see: http://www.cbf-fccb.ca/participate/study-tours/.
