New publication in Applied Physics Letters in December 2015 in collaboration with experimental groups in Montreal: Intense terahertz field effects on photoexcited carrier dynamics in gated graphene.

Marc Dignam was awarded the 2015/16 Geoff Lockwood Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award is named in honour of Prof. Geoff Lockwood and was previously known as the Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Teaching Physics. The award is selected by the undergraduate students in the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics & Astronomy and was presented at the End of the Year Physics Banquet, organized by the Engineering Physics and the Undergraduate Physics Council on Friday, March 18th 2016.

Congratulations to Nicole Day, who successfully defended her MSc. thesis, Tight-Binding Approximations in 1D and 2D Coupled-Cavity Photonic Crystal Structures on May 19. A celebration of his and Ryan D’Eon’s defenses was held at Jack Astor’s on May 19th, but unfortunately we were all too busy celebrating to take any pictures.

Former MSc. Student, Riley McGouran’s paper on the nonlinear THz response of unbiased bilayer graphene has been published in Physical Review B. Congratulations Riley!

Hossein’s paper, Squeezed thermal states: The result of parametric down conversion in lossy cavities, recently published in the Journal of the Optical Society of America B was chosen as an Editor’s Pick! Congratulations Hossein!

Congratulations to Hossein Seifoory on the success of his Ph.D. defense!  The group hangs out in Market Square after a celebratory dinner.
