Volunteers Sought to be Short-Term Hosts to Foreign Exchange Students

A wonderful way to participate in the internationalization of Queen’s is to serve as a temporary volunteer host family for incoming international students.  These students are from a mixed demographic and all have a functional proficiency in English, though many are new to Canada.

If you might be interested in hosting an international student, please contact Hanna Stanbury in the International Centre (hanna.stanbury@queensu.ca 613-533-2604).

The requirements are simple:

  • Two references from someone other than family members. (Members of the Queen’s community do not require a police check for this program.)
  • Accommodation must be easily accessible – by foot or by public transportation – to the campus.
  • Meals or driving students/transportation are NOT required, though neither would be turned down if offered.
  • An interview with Hanna to determine which students would be most comfortable in their home.

The major need is for hosts for end of August and early September, esp. during the Labour Day weekend.

The International Centre solicits hosts only from the Queen’s community, never from the public, so your participation would be part of these students’ Queen’s Experience.
