Training Opportunities

Below are informative modules which have been developed specifically to support club leaders and teams. These can be worked through at your own pace and will help you navigate your role as a Club Leader during remote delivery. Modules will be hosted in onQ and each module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Self-register for the Club Hub Training on onQ

Access training modules built for you as the club leader.  These self-directed modules can be done at your own pace and are built to support you and your team as you work through the year as leaders in the Queen’s community.

Topics Covered Include:

Leadership

This module examines what it means to be a leader how that privilege and responsibility plays an integral role in building further leaders.  Made to support new and established club leaders, this module examines leadership and provides guidance on how to lead and learn from a team.

Online Event Planning

This module is for club leaders who supervise club members. Gain tips for preparing, onboarding, and supervising peers remotely. Utilize concrete tools and a plan to make sure that you, and the students you lead, are set up for success.

Building a Program

Are you a new club leader or an established club leader who is seeking to expand the work you are doing in the community?  This module will lead you through the varied ways in which you can build a program.  Ideally used as a pre-requisite for Online Event Planning, this module guides you through the process of building a program/event with purpose.

Conflict Mediation

Conflicts will happen and how they are weathered as a team is a reflection in part of a leader knowing how to navigate conflict.  Following a personal reflection exercise, leaders will learn of conflict mediation methodologies and how to apply them to their team.

Giving and Receiving Feedback

This module guides leaders through the process of giving and receiving feedback.  Following a self-directed review of your own feedback processes, participants will delve into the processes related to giving and receiving feedback and how to lead a team.

Planning Events Online

This module is a great resource for clubs that are planning online events. Learn to develop outcomes for an event, identify the key considerations when planning an event online and utilize tools commonly used for online event management.

Effective Teamwork Online

This module is for clubs looking for ways to work effectively as a team while operating remotely. Learn about the importance of communication, support and connection within your team and gain concrete strategies for enhancing these areas while working remotely. Create an action plan for enhancing team operations and creating a sense of community within your club.

Leading Others Remotely

This module is for club leaders who supervise club members. Gain tips for preparing, onboarding, and supervising peers remotely. Utilize concrete tools and a plan to make sure that you, and the students you lead, are set up for success.

What are the opportunities?

The AMS Clubs Office and the Student Experience Office have partnered with the Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Centre to support clubs and offer Design Thinking and Innovation opportunities!

There are two tiered opportunities that clubs can take advantage of:

Stage 1: Access an online asynchronous Design Thinking Module that will walk you and your club members through the design thinking process. Learn how to adapt and strategize so that your club stays active and maintains impact this year.

Stage 2: After completing stage one, register to attend a live Design Thinking Workshop with the DDQIC Team! This will be a chance to share your ideas for the year, consult with design thinking & innovation experts, and create an action plan for your club.

How do access these offerings?

The Stage 1: Design Thinking Module is available now! After completion you will be sent a certificate. You can access the module here and complete this before October 15th so that you can participate in Stage 2.

For the Stage 2: Design Thinking Workshop, email student.experience@queensu.ca with your module completion certificate and you will be sent a link to register for your preferred live workshop times in October/November. The SEO will follow up to confirm your time and provide you with a link to the workshop.
