Value Action Statements

Advancement spent a year to collaboratively define the values to which we hold ourselves accountable. Each value is supported by a set of observable behaviours we encourage everyone to adopt in their work.

  • We hold ourselves accountable for our work and take responsibility for the outcome.
  • We hold other accountable in a productive way. This includes setting clear expectations and providing clear feedback.
  • We recognize opportunities for process improvements and learn from mistakes.
  • We own our mistakes and discuss them in an open and honest way.
  • We don't blame others, make excuses or pawn off responsibility (or failure) onto others.

  • We treat our colleagues with respect and compassion by responding when appropriate in a timely and professional manner.
  • We show a genuine interest in and appreciation of other's perspectives, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • We find ways to collaborate outside of my immediate team or unit, to further our mutual goals and to honour our roles as stewards of alumni engagement and our donor's giving journey.
  • We are open to new ideas wherever they may come from.
  • We express recognition and gratitude for the efforts and contributions of others.

  • We take the time to learn about the diversity of opinions and perspectives because we recognize they are important to help us all increase our knowledge and expertise.
  • We take responsibility for becoming more self-aware and for learning and educating ourselves about Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • We commit to tolerance and inclusion; to invite feedback and to act on that feedback in a way that makes our colleagues feel heard and respected.
