Culture and Conflict
Level 2 or above or permission of the Department.
From wars in the ancient world to Syria and Ukraine in recent and contemporary history, we examine the impact of military conflicts on art and architecture over the centuries and from a global perspective. Among the topics included are: art looting during war and restitution, damage to and restoration of monuments, and attempts to protect heritage from total destruction and loss.

ARTH 260 is a lecture course. The power-point images from the lectures will be posted after each class. There are required readings via Course Reserves every week in association with the lectures. Students will be tested on the content of the lectures and the readings. Some of the following will be used to test knowledge from the course: in-class tests, in-class short essays, final exam in the exam period.
