In Global Indigenous Printmaking, you’ll explore the postwar explosion of Indigenous printmaking around the world, from Inuit communities in the Canadian Arctic to Australia, Papua New Guinea, West Africa, and the Americas, while tracing its deeper historical roots. The seminar examines how Indigenous and colonized communities used printmaking to pursue economic opportunity, cultural and political sovereignty, and new aesthetic understandings of traditional life. You’ll also learn how prints are made, exploring key techniques, materials, and processes.
