Sheldon Traviss is an Indigenous artist, researcher, and culinary practitioner based in Kingston, Ontario. His interdisciplinary practice explores relationships between land, material knowledge, foodways, and cultural memory, drawing on Haudenosaunee perspectives alongside archival and material research. His work spans ceramics, sculpture, mapping, Indigenous foodways, and the study of locally sourced materials such as wild clay and earth pigments.
Sheldon’s current work explores ways of documenting, understanding, and working with materials and knowledge that remain connected to living cultural practices. His research considers how objects can be understood not only through their physical properties and histories, but also through the relationships, processes, and knowledge systems from which they emerge.
